KATHMANDU, May 29: The Supreme Court (SC) is scheduled to conduct a hearing on the writ petition filed against Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane today.

The petition was filed by advocate Anupam Bhattarai against Home Minister Lamichhane in the apex court demanding Lamichhane’s suspension, arguing that his position as Home Minister could compromise the impartiality of the investigation into the co-operative fraud case.

The petition also seeks to annul the letter from the Office of the Attorney General, which stated that there is no case of cooperative fraud against Lamichhane.

The Office of the Attorney General, Attorney General Dinmani Pokharel, and Home Minister Lamichhane have been named as defendants in the writ.

In the petition, Bhattarai argues that the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister's roles could unfairly influence the investigation, violating natural justice principles.

Therefore, an interim order has been requested to suspend Lamichhane from his ministerial position during the investigation.

This request has been made to the Government of Nepal, the Prime Minister, and the Council of Ministers.
