KATHMANDU, April 5: The hearing on a writ petition filed against Rabi Lamichhane, the chairman of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), is currently underway at the Supreme Court (SC). The hearing, which was scheduled for Wednesday, is being conducted by the single bench of Justice Hari Prasad Phuyal. The petition was filed by Yuvraj Paudel (Safal) and requests the annulment of the decision to acquit Lamichhane on charges of passport misuse.
On Monday, Attorney General Dr Dinmani Pokharel filed a writ petition demanding that the case related to the passport misuse of RSP Chairman Lamichhane should not be pursued. The attorney general's office had decided not to file a case against Lamichhane on the 20th of March, based on the report from the High Public Prosecutor's Office through the District Public Prosecutor's Office and the comments of the Attorney General's Office. However, the writ petition filed by Paudel seeks to overturn this decision.

It should be noted that Lamichhane had lost his position as MP and minister earlier, as the court had ruled that he was not a Nepali citizen since he had not acquired Nepali citizenship through the due process. However, he has since acquired Nepali citizenship after completing the necessary procedures at the district administration office.
The case against Lamichhane has been a matter of public interest, and the hearing in the Supreme Court will provide further clarity on the matter. The outcome of the hearing is eagerly awaited by all concerned parties.
