Sankhuwasabha accident Update: 10 dead and five injured identified

KIMATHANKA, March 10: The identities of 10 people who died in a bus accident in Madi Municipality-6 of Sankhuwasabha have been revealed. The identities of 10 people killed and five injured in the bus accident have been revealed, police said.


The deceased have been identified as driver Bipin Niraula, 30, of Aunshidanda, Tehrathum; conductor of the vehicle Umesh Bhattarai, 35, of Madi-4; Deepak Dahal, 45, of Madi-5; Shyam Sherpa, 52, and Bhawani Dahal, 55, and Indra Bahadur Adhikari, 38, of Madi-6. The deceased also include Aita Bahadur Tamang, 38, Sabita Raut Karki, 35, Anjana Katuwal of Madi-6 and Dikshya Katuwal of Madi-5, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Lal Dhwaj Subedi.

The bus heading to Damak, Jhapa from Okharbote Bazaar of Madi met with the accident at around 7:30 AM on Thursday. The accident took place near Saatghumti of Madi-6. The bus fell about 300 meters from the road, police said. DSP Subedi said that the accident may have been due to the high speed of the bus.


Injured to be rescued thru helicopter


Five people were rescued alive from the bus accident site, police said. Among the injured are Subash Gole of Madi-5, Yuwa Pokhrel and Tulasa Katuwal, Ambika BK and Dambar Bahadur Karki of Madi-6.


DSP Subedi said that preparations were being made to rescue the five injured and take them to Kathmandu by a Nepal Army helicopter.
