Sanitation workers facing shortage of safety equipment

KATHMANDU, April 4: As Kathmandu metropolitan city has continued the waste management, the sanitation workers for it are in risk due to lack of safety equipments.

KATHMANDU, April 4: As Kathmandu metropolitan city has continued the waste management, the sanitation workers for it are in risk due to lack of safety equipments.


The workers are not getting safety gown as they require. Only 500 such gowns, gloves, masks have been distributed in KMC and Kirtipur municipality sanitation workers. The Guthi, non-governmental institutions, provided these stuffs to the workers via respective mayors of the municipalities on Friday.

While receiving the stuffs, KMC mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya shared that these equipments will help for workers' safety though little in this critical hour. The possible outbreak of deadly COVID-19 has threatened further the workers particularly in vulnerable condition as in waste management and sanitation. He also shared that the KMC will initiate to implement the health insurance scheme to the workers as introduced by the federal government.


Similarly, Kirtipur municipality Ramesh Maharjan urged the workers to pay attention to their security while going in work and the municipality is ready to support in case of emergency.
