KATHMANDU, Dec 4: The Secretary General of SAARC, Ambassador Md. Golam Sarwar, participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) on December 3, 2024.
According to a press release issued by the SAARC Secretariat, the discussion, themed "SAARC Nearing 50: Challenges and Way Forward," focused on the organization's achievements over four decades and the organization’s path ahead. The Secretary General emphasized SAARC's efforts in fostering regional cooperation through institutional frameworks and project-based initiatives, even amid challenges.

He highlighted ongoing activities with external partners, including the Asian Development Bank, in areas such as climate change, sustainable development, and regional integration. Stressing the importance of revitalizing SAARC, he called for renewed diplomatic efforts to convene high-level meetings, the press release stated.
The event was moderated by BIISS Chairman Ambassador AFM Gousal Azam Sarker, with welcome remarks by Major General Iftekhar Anis, Director General of BIISS.
