KATHMANDU, Aug. 7: A routine purchase of goods worth just Rs 250 has turned into a Rs 1 million windfall for a consumer from Kanchanpur, who won the bumper prize under the Inland Revenue Department's (IRD) Taxpayer Incentive Gift Plan for the first 15 days of the Nepali month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August).
The winning purchase was made at Shiva Krishna General Store in Punarbas Municipality, Kanchanpur.

The IRD announced the results of the lucky draw at a program held on Friday in the presence of Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle. According to the department, the winning transaction took place on 23 July, and the winning coupon number is 007315254493.
Under prevailing tax laws, 25 percent tax will be deducted from the prize amount, leaving the winner with Rs 750,000.
IRD Director General Bhishma Raj Bhusal said the identity of the bumper prize winner has been withheld to protect taxpayer confidentiality.
The IRD also announced that 15 other consumers, selected based on transactions made between Shrawan 1 and 15, have each won Rs 100,000 in cash after tax deductions. Their identities have likewise not been disclosed to maintain confidentiality.
