KATHMANDU, June 1: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Chairman Rajendra Lingden has warned that the Kathmandu Valley will be shut down starting tomorrow if RPP Nepal Chairman Kamal Thapa is not released immediately and respectfully by the police.
Lingden issued the warning after police detained Chairman Thapa during a protest held in Kathmandu today (Sunday) demanding the restoration of the monarchy.
Addressing the protesters, Chairman Lingden said, “If Kamal Thapa is not brought here and released respectfully right now, a shutdown of the Kathmandu Valley will begin from tomorrow. We will call our comrades from across the country — the real struggle begins tomorrow.”

He further added, “We will no longer gather in one place — we will come out from 50 different locations. Where will you stop us?” Lingden warned the government not to mistake their compulsion for weakness.
RPP, RPP-Nepal, and other pro-monarchist groups have been staging continuous protests in Kathmandu since May 29, demanding the restoration of the monarchy and a Hindu state. The parties have vowed to make this movement decisive.
On Sunday, protesters demonstrated in the Naxal and Baluwatar areas. Police baton-charged demonstrators after they tried to break into restricted zones.
According to police, RPP-Nepal Chairman Thapa was taken into custody while leading a march toward Baluwatar. Several others were also detained. Tensions flared in the area following the incident.
