KATHMANDU, Dec 8: The road built over the Tukucha River in Kamaladi, which collapsed on August 9 due to continuous downpour, is now ready to be operational after its repair. A large crater had formed on the road, disrupting traffic in the area, but the repair work is now nearing completion.

Construction on the road began on October 20, nearly three months after the collapse. The work was completed in approximately 50 days. Since the collapse, traffic has been unable to operate through the area, which is located near the Kathmandu Metropolitan City building.

The road is currently in its final phase of construction, with only sidewalk repairs and some finishing touches remaining. The Department of Roads has confirmed that the road will be open for traffic starting December 11.

Kushal Dhungana, a representative of DG Prakash Construction, the contractor for the project, stated, "We have completed the work on this road. We are preparing to hand it over to the Road Division Kathmandu, allowing vehicle operations to begin from December 11."

Dhungana added that work on the road includes sidewalk repairs, installing railings, painting, and site clearing. He also mentioned that the formwork from the Tukucha River will be removed starting today.

"The road will now be operational," Dhungana said.

The construction contract for the road was given for Rs 4.95 million, with the agreement specifying that work should be completed by December 12. While the deadline has passed, Dhungana explained that the extra time was necessary for the construction of the sidewalk.

The Road Division Kathmandu has confirmed that vehicle operations will begin the day the road is handed over.
