DAMAK, Dec 10: About 100 Bhutanese refugee families whose huts were destroyed in a fire last week have prevented international donor agencies from entering the camp from Monday.

The displaced refugee families in Beldangi camp in Damak, who started a sit-in protesting the "indifference of donors to their woes", set up a barricade Monday preventing the vehicles of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) from entering the camp.[break]

According to the victimized refugees, they got infuriated after UNHCR officials told them that they would be shifted to huts soon to vacated by other refugees who are awaiting third country resettlement.

The victimized families have demanded immediate food aid and resettlement on the very spot where their huts stood.

"It´s been a week since the fire burnt down my house but I have not received any aid. Now they told us to wait till the huts are vacated so we started protest," said Nara Bahadur Gurung, one of the fire victims from Sector C4.

"This protest won´t end until they agree to our demands," added Gurung.
