KATHMANDU, Aug 18: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ranju Neupane (Darshana) has urged the government to ensure the effective implementation of the health insurance scheme, saying citizens have been left in distress.
Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, Darshana said the government must take whatever measures are necessary to make the health insurance scheme fully operational.
“Whatever needs to be done, however it needs to be done, the health insurance scheme must be brought into operation. Citizens are already in distress,” she said.

Darshana also raised concerns over a proposed waste processing center behind the Thapathali Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital in Kathmandu Constituency-1, her constituency. She said the proposed facility was being planned without any public notice and that local residents had been protesting the project.
She stressed the need to remain particularly sensitive to the health of mothers and children, given the location of the proposed facility.
“Local residents have also been protesting, saying the processing center should not be built there. We need to be sensitive to the health of mothers and children,” she said.
Darshana also highlighted the plight of people who had taken loans by pledging gold at Nepal Rastra Bank. She urged the government to listen to their grievances following the theft of gold on September 9.
“Those who had pledged gold to take loans from Nepal Rastra Bank have neither received their gold back nor received compensation based on its current market value. The government must listen to their pleas as well,” she said.
