KATHMANDU, Sept 27: Police have clarified that former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has not been arrested, saying he was placed under police protection following information about a possible threat to his safety.
Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Khadka, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office in Teku, said Rana was brought under police watch after authorities received emergency information suggesting that he could face an attack.
“This is certainly not an arrest. We received information about some threat concerning him. We brought him here only for his security. It is not an arrest,” Khadka told Nagarik News.

According to Khadka, Rana is currently under police protection.
“We initially received emergency information suggesting that an attack could be carried out against him. We immediately gave the matter priority and brought him under our protection to ensure his safety,” he said.
Khadka said police were also considering arrangements to provide Rana with security at his residence.
Police will assess the nature of the threat and decide how security can be provided if Rana remains at home, he added.
Khadka, however, did not disclose where the alleged threat originated. He said police could not make further details public at this stage because revealing sensitive information about such threats could allow others to imitate similar actions.
