Pulses and sugar recovered from mill in Nepalgunj

NEPALGUNJ, June 26- Nepal Police have recovered a large quantity of pulses and sugar from Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis city-1. As many as 520 sacks of sugar weighing 50 kg per sack and 51 sacks of pulses weighing 30 kg per sack were recovered from the premises of Nandani Mill in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis-1.

The estimated price of 520 sacks of sugar is over Rs 1.8 million and the estimated price of 51 sacks of pulses is Rs 107,000. On the basis of information that the commodities were smuggled into the Nandani Mill, a special investigative team from the Lumbini Province Police Office and a police team from the District Police Office, Banke raided the mill and retrieved the products  on Friday at around 7 PM. The commodities were smuggled and kept on the mill’s premises without any documentation, according to the authorities.

The recovered goods have been sent to Nepalgunj Custom Office for further investigation. Despite regular checking by the police, a large quantity of smuggled goods has been found which has questioned the role of Nepal Police.  However, the operator of Nandani Mills, has told the police that the goods belonged to someone else. The police have declared the goods ‘unclaimed’ as the owner of the goods hadn’t been found until the filing of this news report.
