Province 1: Call for submission of claims for Chief Minister

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 1: Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung has called upon the members of the Provincial Assembly to submit their claims for the post of Chief Minister of Province 1. On Sunday, Provincial Chief Khapung called for submission of claims for the post by January 8.

BIRATNAGAR, Jan 1: Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung has called upon the members of the Provincial Assembly to submit their claims for the post of Chief Minister of Province 1. On Sunday, Provincial Chief Khapung called for submission of claims for the post by January 8.


As there is no clear majority of any party in the provincial assembly, according to article 168 (2) of the constitution, the provincial assembly members of Province 1 who can garner a majority with the support of two or more parties represented in the provincial assembly have been requested by the provincial chief Khapung to submit their claims by January 8 at 5 PM. .

There are 93 members in the provincial assembly where the ruling alliance led by the UML has a majority. On this basis, it is seen that UML will stake claim to the post of Chief Minister on behalf of the alliance. Two parties of the alliance - UML and Maoist Center - are claiming the post of Chief Minister in Province 1. Former Internal Affairs Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki from UML and Economic Affairs and Planning Minister Indra Angwo from the Maoist Center have staked their claims to the post of Chief Minister. The support of 47 MPs is required to form a government in Province 1. The UML alliance has 60 MPs including 40 from the UML, 13 from the Maoist Center, 6 from the RPP and 1 from the JSP.
