CIB warns against use of banned online betting platforms

The government has already shut down such betting applications, but authorities say some individuals are still involved in their operation and use.

KATHMANDU, April 3: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has renewed its warning against engaging in transactions through banned online betting sites and platforms, urging the public to stay away from illegal activities.



The government has already shut down such betting applications, but authorities say some individuals are still involved in their operation and use.

CIB Spokesperson Shiva Kumar Shrestha said the bureau has requested everyone not to participate in or promote such activities. He warned that those found involved could face legal action, including the seizure of devices used in the process.


Police said that under the National Penal Code, 2017, offenders can be arrested and investigated, with penalties including imprisonment, fines, or both. Any earnings from betting, along with equipment used, will also be confiscated.


The CIB has further urged the public not to conduct or facilitate transactions through banned betting platforms and to report any such activities to the authorities.
