Prime, Golden Gate into semifinal

KATHMANDU, Sept 10: Prime College and Golden Gate International College on Thursday secured semifinals berth in the Ncell U-18 Basketball Tournament being held at the Army Physical Training and Sports Center in Lagankhel, Kathmandu.

Primed toiled hard to beat LRI 59-54 in the quarterfinal match riding on 19 points from Sashi Parajuli. Although it was trailing by six points at the end of the third quarter, Prime created the base for victory in the last quarter scoring 28-17.

Earlier, Prime took a narrow lead of one point in the first quarter scoring 12 against 11 points of LRI. However, Prime lagged behind by seven points after second quarter with a 4-12 loss by the half time.

The third set finished with the score of 15-14 as Prime amassed a total of 31 points against 37 points of LRI. However, Prime made a stunning comeback in the decisive set to oust LRI from the competition.

In another quarterfinal, Golden Gate piled consistence pressure on GEMS from the onset to ease past the opponent 64-41. Khukhen Lama contributed 15 points for the winning team.

Golden Gate led all four quarters 16-10, 18-11, 15-10, 15-10 to secure a place in the last four.

Along with the victory of Prime and Golden Gate, the semifinal lineup also got full shape. In the semifinals to be played on Friday, Golden gate will lock horns with Prime while Liverpool International takes on Morgan International.
