KATHMANDU, June 30: The political document presented by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the party´s politburo meeting will be discussed in the central committee after the 10-day politburo meeting that ended on Monday failed to endorse it.

The meeting concluded on Monday with an agreement to include the hard-liners´ opinions in the document and forward it to the upcoming central committee (CC) meeting for further discussion. [break]

"We have decided to take the political document to the CC meeting as many politburo members presented different opinions on the chairman´s document," said Maoist politburo member Ram Karki. The CC meeting will also fix the date for the party´s general convention.

The meeting, however, passed civilian supremacy, peace, constitution, national self-esteem and national unity government as the party´s future course of action.

The hard-line camp led by the senior party leader Mohan Baidya had previously opposed Dahal´s concept of national unity government and pressed for the unity of nationalists and leftist forces. He has also demanded that the party adopt a "people´s revolt" as the future course of action.

Talking to journalists after the meeting, Dahal said a national unity government led by the Maoists is the need of hour. He said he would include different opinions expressed during the meeting and present it to the CC meeting.

"We will include all opinions expressed during the meeting and lead the government if need arises," added Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma.

Politburo members were divided over whether to accept Dahal´s paper or not. Leaders including Barsaman Pun, Shakti Basnet, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Dinanath Sharma and Haribol Gajurel stood in favor of Dahal while CP Gajurel, Dev Gurung and Netra Bikram Chand supported Baidya. Senior party leader Baburam Bhattarai, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Hisila Yami appeared neutral.
