Police resorted to baton charge on elephant attack victims, 10 injured

JHAPA, June 15: At least ten locals were injured on Saturday afternoon as police resorted to baton charge against those protesting inaction of local authority to stop repeated attacks of elephant in Bahundangi VDC in Jhapa.



Police lobbed at least 16 shells of tear gas and rained down batons to disperse the agitating protestors as they allegedly targeted police personnel with bricks and stones.[break]



While two persons including Buddha Rai was injured, police has arrested three others including Ekraj Ghimire, Adip Khadka and Bom Bahadur Tamang in connection with the incident.



Agitating locals and police are holding talks to resolve their demands. Agitating victims of elephant attacks have warned of announcing protest programs if the talks failed to yield any positive results.
