Police fire tear gas shells, baton-charge at protesters in Kanchanpur

BHIMDUTTANAGAR, Aug 21: Police have fired five rounds of tear gas and baton-charged protesters after a clash erupted between the two during the latter's protest.


Four rounds of tear gas shells were fired in front of District Administration Office while another was shot in front of Dashrath Chand Chowk.

Two protesters have been injured while another two arrested during the protest. Residents of Kanchanpur have been demanding the murderer of Nirmala Panta, 13, who was raped and murdered on July 27, be arrested.


As part of their protests, today, protesters have shut down market area of Bhimdutta municipality. They are protesting in front of District Administration Office, highway's Traffic Police Post, Dashrath Chand Chowk among others.


Yesterday, the District Police Office yesterday arrested Dilip Singh Bista, 41 of Bagfata-19, Bhimdutta municipality for allegedly raping and murdering the deceased 26 days ago. The locals said that Bista was mentally challenged and could not be a murderer. In turn, they have demanded the police to catch the real culprit.
