KATHMANDU, June 15: Lalitpur Metropolitan City has introduced an e-challan system to make traffic enforcement and municipal police actions, including penalties for illegal parking, more efficient and service-friendly, Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan said.
Speaking at the launch of the e-challan system on Monday, Mayor Maharjan said the system has come into operation from today.
He said the metropolis has been expanding technology-based services across different sectors. Highlighting previous initiatives such as smart street lights and intelligent traffic lights, he said Lalitpur is now moving toward implementing the e-challan system.
Fines for traffic rule violation can now be paid using QR code
“Efforts have been made to make services more convenient for citizens. The product was handed over through collaboration with Tree Leaf Technology’s Deepak Malla under the coordination of the municipal police chief. We will have to see how effective this system will be,” he said.
He also noted that citizens previously had to visit offices in person to pay fines, which caused inconvenience, and the new e-challan system has been introduced to address this issue by enabling QR-based payments.
