Police nab domestics for robbery

KATHMANDU, Dev 16: Police on Sunday said they had arrested two people for allegedly looting almost 6 million rupees in cash and valuable from a house in Kathmandu where the two were employed as domestic help.



Metropolitan Police Range office, Hanuman Dhoka told a press conference on Sunday that the two alleged looters - Lokhnath Sapkota, 39 of Kavre District and Resma Rai, 26 of Dhankuta were arrested within 72 hours of the robbery.[break]



Police said both the accused had been working at businessman Rajendra Ghiraiya´s home in Lazimpat, and were able to rob the home by winning the confidence of the family members.



According to Police Inspector Manjil Mukarung, Sapkota mastermind the plan by making a duplicate keys of room and the cupboard about two weeks ago.



Sapkota, who worked as a cook at the home for the last 11 months, brought Rai as an assistant worker about one and half months ago. Inspector Mukarung said the two robbed cash, including indian notes and antique indian coins, gold necklace, bangles, ear and finger rings and wrist watches.



Sapkota was found hiding at his in-laws´ home in remote village at Makwanpur and his relatives were oblivious about the crime and provided details that helped the police arrest him.



Accused Sapkota confessed he had planned to rob the home since Dashain and used Rai to only to get detailed information about the home, the police said.
