KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has directed the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to develop a robust action plan to provide practical and high-quality education.

During a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, he emphasized that technical skills should constitute 70 percent of the education framework.

"Regardless of the level of education, if individuals lack skills in any field, they will remain underutilized and may face difficulties in finding employment. Therefore, I urge you to focus on producing skilled manpower," he said. "It is essential to prepare highly ethical personnel, so please devise and implement appropriate policies."

Prime Minister Oli highlighted the need to produce skilled manpower capable of contributing to societal development. He stressed the importance of increasing school enrollment, reducing dropout rates, and enhancing the quality of education.

He also expressed interest in utilizing competent teachers and providing free internet to ensure that at least 70 percent of students pass the upcoming SEE (Secondary Education Examination).

"Work with the goal of ensuring at least 70 percent pass rate in the SEE. Select qualified teachers, arrange for free internet, and conduct online classes," he instructed.

Prime Minister Oli noted that during the recent Senate meeting at Tribhuvan University, he agreed to approve the urgent grace list and budget based on discussions with officials. As the university's chancellor, he had not yet reviewed the policy and program because it was only made available the previous day. A decision was made to hold the next Senate meeting soon to discuss the policy and program further.

He emphasized the need to maximize the use of science and technology and instructed the formulation of a concrete program for this purpose.

"Develop a solid program to protect citizens' health, ensure purity through testing, support the concept of a healthy Nepal, reduce poverty, and increase the application of science and technology in agriculture and industry," he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel, Minister of Education, Science, and Technology Bidhya Bhattarai, Chief Secretary Lila Devi Gadtaula, and Secretaries Dr Deepak Kafle and Bishwababu Pudasaini were also present at the meeting.
