PM Dahal to leave for India on Sunday to attend Modi's swearing-in ceremony

KATHMANDU, June 8: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is set to travel to India to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Narendra Modi. 

Following the victory of the NDA in 292 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi is set to take oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third time. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 6 PM.

Prime Minister Dahal's delegation includes Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal; Prime Minister Dahal’s daughter Ganga Dahal, who is also his personal secretary; and the chief of protocol  Bishnu Prasad Gautam.

Modi and several members of the cabinet are slated to take their oaths on June 9. Several heads of state have been invited to the ceremony. 

In response to Modi's invitation, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal will depart for India on Sunday afternoon. Prime Minister Dahal’s Press Adviser Govinda Acharya stated that Dahal is expected to return to the country shortly.

As per reports, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Seychellois Vice President Ahmed Afif, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravinda Jagannath, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, and others will be in attendance.

A statement from the central government of India mentioned that President Droupadi Murmu will host a dinner at Rashtrapati Bhawan (the official residence of the President of India) for the foreign leaders attending the swearing-in ceremony.

The statement further stated that leaders from neighboring countries have been invited as part of India's 'neighborhood policy' and 'Sagar' vision.
