Aircraft crash and rescue exercise conducted at TIA (In pictures)

KATHMANDU, June 10: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal conducted a training exercise simulating a plane crash and subsequent rescue operation at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).

KATHMANDU, June 10: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal conducted a training exercise simulating a plane crash and subsequent rescue operation at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). This drill, involving the 'crash' of an old plane was a part of a comprehensive rehearsal of the airport's emergency response plan.


The exercise, which required the temporary closure of the airport for about half an hour on Sunday afternoon, saw the participation of various emergency teams including the Nepalese Army. Fire fighters, security personnel, and ambulances were mobilized, and black smoke was visible in the sky from the area around the airport.

According to the airport office, this training program was organized in accordance with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) and was a part of the Airport Emergency Plan.
