KATHMANDU, Dec 5: The Department of Passports has resumed services at 22 district and area administration offices, as well as Nepali missions abroad, following a temporary suspension caused by a major cyberattack on the electronic passport system on November 20.
According to the department, passport services are fully operational at its central office in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu, where emergency requests are being handled without disruption. However, services at several district offices and missions abroad remain on hold as the department works toward a full restoration.

In a notice, the department stated that passports for previously submitted applications, including biometrics, are being processed and dispatched through regular channels. It also apologized for the inconvenience caused by the disruption and assured the public that efforts are being made to resume operations at all locations in the coming days.
The cyberattack had forced the suspension of services for five days, from November 20 to November 25. During this period, passports were issued only under expedited services at select locations.
