KALIKOT, April 24: The political parties in Kalikot district are prioritizing youths as the candidates to represent them in the local level elections taking place almost after two decades on May 14.
With the increasing engagements of the youths in politics, pressure is mounting on the political parties to field them in the local polls. CPN (UML) has stated that it has forwarded young leaders in the elections. In Kalikot's six village councils and three municipalities CPN (UML) has fielded youths, CPN (UML) Kalikot District Member, Hem Raj Sanjyal said.
Sanjyal added that the party during the poll – related meetings took the decision to prioritize youths. The youngest candidate Birendra Pharsal, who is 24 years old, has been fielded for the ward council of Raskot Municipality – 5. Likewise, in Triveni Municipality journalist and student leader, Parbati Singh, has been selected to run for vice chairperson's post.
Nepali Congress, which has been fending off criticism for giving priority to elderly citizens rather than youths, has also made an about – face to field youths. NC Kalikot has stated that it will look to enhance the status of youths in politics mindful of the changing times. NC District member, Nilo Tiruwa, made it clear that majority of youths will be given a chance in the local elections.
CPN (Maoist Centre) Kalikot has also claimed that it is giving priority to youths in the party. Centre's General Convention Organizing Committee member, Dharma Raj Shahi, said youths have registered candidacies for four village councils out of a total of six village councils.
He shared that the youth leaders Khadak Raj Sejuwal, Agra Bahadur Bista, Ratan Bahadur Shahi and Ananta BK have filed candidacies for Pachal Jharana Village Council, Narharinath Village Council, Tulagufa Village Council and Palanta Village Council respectively. RSS
