CHITWAN, Nov 27: A joint meeting of five national parks convened in Chitwan regarding the effective security management of national parks in the Terai region.
In the meeting organized by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) on Sunday, the officials of five national parks, security personnel and reservoir officials were present.

Director General of the DNPWC, Dr Sindhu Prasad Dhungana directed the park administration, security personnel and stakeholders to make the security system of the parks stronger and more effective. He said that it would be easy to control the theft and illegal trade of wild animals and forest products with a collaborative effort.
Lieutenant General Sundar Kumar Pandey, Chief of National Parks and Wildlife Reserve Directorate of Nepal Army, Brigadier General Sanukaji Thapa of Nepali Army Battalion-28, Brigadier General Leela Bahadur Khanal Chhetri of Nepali Army Battalion-7 also participated in the program.
They pointed out in the meeting the need for coordination between all security agencies, local communities and stakeholders for effective security management of the park. Also, DNPWC highlighted the need for increasing the capacity of the park staff and security agencies to control wildlife crime and to emphasize on the use of latest technology for heightened surveillance and control.
