At the Central Committee (CC) meeting on Thursday, Bhattarai claimed that the chairman breached party disciple in deciding to hand over the cantonments to the Special Committee without discussing it in the party.[break]
“Why did you decide to hand over the combatants to the Special Committee in a humiliating manner -- that too without discussing it in the party? And you talk of method, procedure and discipline,” a CC leader quoted Bhattarai as saying during the meeting.
At the CC meeting the Maoist ideologue said the other political parties had proposed last May that they would accept a coalition government led by the Maoists if the latter agreed to transfer the cantonments under the Special Committee, but Dahal had rejected the proposal back then. “But now you have accepted the same thing, humiliating the party,” the leader quoted Bhattarai as saying.
According to party leaders, Bhattarai also questioned the chairman´s move to compromise on the principles of the constitution without discussing it in the party. “I was the one who prepared the draft constitution for our party. And you went on making compromises even without telling me -- let alone discuss it in the party,” another CC leader quoted Bhattarai as saying.
The Maoist ideologue also demanded that the CC take a concrete decision on the formation of the new government.
Earlier, Chairman Dahal became aggressive against Bhattarai over the Janadesh episode.
“We formulated the method and procedure, showing amity toward his views, but he declined to abide by it. Now he should realize his mistake,” a leader quoted Dahal as saying at the meeting.
According to him, the last CC meeting had decided to take his dissent to the lower committees in the form a circular, instead of allowing Bhattarai to bring it up at the cadre orientation program.
He also criticized Bhattarai for brining up the issue of government formation in the CC, though, he said, there is no possibility of the party leading the government. “He should clarify what he meant,” he said.
While Senior Vice-chairman Baidya came down heavily on Bhattarai, his right-hand man Netra Bikram Chand lent support to Bhattarai in criticizing Dahal.
“It is surprising that a top office-bearer says he doesn´t know anything about government formation and the party´s move to bring combatants under the Special Committee. The way the party is being handled is wrong; we should discuss it,” a leader quoted Chand as saying.
But Baidy argued that Bhattarai´s boycotting of the training program was the result of his “revisionist mindset.”
“Deviating from the party method is very serious. What Baburam did was anarchy; it comes out of his line of revisionism,” Baidya said.
Those close to Bhattarai and some close to Baidya heavily criticized Bhattarai and Yami and demanded action against them.
Leaders including Haribol Gajurel, Lokendra Bista, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Nanda Kishor Pun, Dev Gurung and Krishna Bahadur Mahara supported Dahal and demanded action against Bhattarai. Similarly, leaders including Top Bahadur Rayamaji, Ram Karki and Dinanath Sharma supported Bhattarai.
