ITAHARI, April 23: A truck helper died this morning at Jhumka of Sunsari when Tharu activists tried to vandalise vehicles on the charge of defying the banda they have imposed.
Sambhu Pariyar, helper of truck (Na 2 Kha 3147), was crushed to death while the truck driver tried to speed away from the place where Tharu activists were chasing it, said the Area Police Office, Pakali.
According to police, baton-wielding Tharuhat cadres suddenly descended on the road early in the morning and all of a sudden tried to vandalise the vehicles coming from the west. "This created panic among the drivers and they hurriedly tried to drive their vehicles to safer places."
Though they managed to vandalise the truck (Na 1 Kha 123), other one dozen vehicles were speed away and taken safely, police said.
In Duhabi of Sunsari, Tharu activists vandalized two micro buses, police said.

The banda has affected normal life in Itahari, Inaruwa, Jhumka, Dubabi and industrial areas have remained closed. Educational institutions have also stayed shut.
