He personally met Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, who is also president of the NC, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and RPP-N Chairman Kamal Thapa to hand over UML's official letter seeking support for the party's candidate.
Oli has stepped up his campaign as the weeklong deadline given by the president as per the constitution to form new government based on political understanding ends on Thursday. As per the constitutional provision, the parliament on Friday will begin the procedures to elect new prime minister through majority voting.
While handing over the party's letter to Koirala at the prime minister's official residence at Baluwatar, Oli said he expects full support from the NC in electing him for the post of prime minister.
Oli said he and his party sought NC's support as per the understanding reached between the two largest parties in the past.
"At the time of electing you as prime minister, we had reached an understanding to work together," Oli told PM Koirala before media persons. "We have expected wholehearted support from your party just like UML did while electing you earlier."
Responding to Oli, the prime minister said his party's central committee meeting was underway and that he will work as per the party's official decision.
Oli has assertively claimed support from the NC based on past agreements at a time when NC leaders have rubbished the claim saying there was no agreement as such.
Also, Oli reached UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Dahal's residence in Lazimpat to give the official letter to him seeking the support.
According to UML Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, Dahal strongly supports Oli's candidacy and that he is for forming the new government comprising the three largest parties.
"We have to make all efforts to bring the NC on board till the end," Gyawali quoted Dahal as saying. "If the NC doesn't become ready for it, we will have no option left other than to form a government based on majority votes."
Similarly, the Oli-led UML team comprising other leaders such as Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Bidya Bhandari and Pradeep Gyawali reached RPP-N central office and handed over the letter to RPP-N Chair Kamal Thapa.
Thapa told UML leaders to wait for an official decision from his party's central committee meeting on Friday.
According to RPP-N leaders, the party wants to see the three largest parties to form the new government and in such a scenario the fourth largest party would play the role of a constructive opposition.
If any of the three major parties remained in opposition, the RPP-N is likely to join the government.
