KATHMANDU, July 6: Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa is going to present his claim to the chief ministership of Koshi Province today. Even though efforts are being made to rope in the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) into the government, Thapa is preparing to present his claim to the post of chief minister without the support of the RPP as it has not agreed so far.
Bhupendra Rai, chief whip of the Nepali Congress parliamentary party, said that Nepali Congress is preparing to stake claim to government formation with the support of the opposition coalition parties and the RPP. Rai said, “Until now we have not reached an agreement on government formation with the RPP, so we have prepared to stake our claim to form the new government with the support of the coalition parties.”
Maoist Center stakes claim to Koshi Province chief ministership
Rai said that the leader of the Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party, Uddhav Thapa, will claim the position of Chief Minister before the Province Chief this afternoon with the support of the parties affiliated to the alliance. In the opposition coalition of Koshi Province, there are 29 members from the Nepali Congress, 13 including the Speaker from the CPN (Maoist Center), four members from the Unified Socialist Party and one member from the Janata Samajbadi Party.
In the province assembly, 47 members are required for a majority in. As there are 47 members in the opposition alliance, Thapa is going to submit his claim to the Chief Minister. However, the ruling CPN-UML has been saying that the Speaker should not be counted as a member of a party. CPN-UML has been holding the opinion that the speaker should not be counted as a member of any political party as the speaker is a neutral position.
