KATHMANDU, May 18: An official meeting of the ruling Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) is set to take place today. The party’s General Secretary Ratan Thapa said that the meeting has been fixed at 1 PM and officials available in Kathmandu will attend the meeting.
"We are going to hold a meeting to organize the program of the movement and decide a unified view on the Supreme Court (SC) verdict," Thapa said.

Earlier, SC upheld the decision of the High Court Dipayal to sentence Resham Chaudhary, the mastermind of Tikapur carnage, to life imprisonment. The party has announced a Nepal Banda (general strike) for five days starting May 20 to protest against the Supreme Court’s decision against their patron Resham Chaudhary.
NUP has put forth the demand for the unconditional release of Chaudhary. The party submitted a bill to parliament for an amendment to the relevant law for the purpose. However, the road to Chaudhary’s release has been closed after the Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s order on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary said that the decision of the SC is acceptable. He, however, argued that it is open for review.
