13 variations of name see numbers increase by 10,000 % over last 50 years
According to a study, the number of US babies born with the name Mohammed has increased by 10,000 per cent over the last 50 years, the Daily mail reported.
There were only 29 babies born with spelling variations of Mohammed in 1964, while 2,931 newborns carried the name in 2014, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.

The center used Social Security Administration data to measure the growth of the name, and counted 13 variations on the name.
In 2014, the totals for the varied spellings are: Muhammad, 773; Mohamed, 711; Mohammed, 561; Mohammad, 468; Muhammed, 106; Mohamad, 85; Mahmoud, 75; Mamadou (West Africa), 51; Mehmet, 34; Muhamed, 23; Muhamad, 21; Mahamed (Somalia), 13; and Mahmud, 10.
A name used fewer than five times it is not published by Social Security for privacy reasons, according to the Center for Immigration Studies.
Center for Immigration Studies blogger David North suggested that the large increase from 1964 to 1994 - from 29 to 1,240 - could have been because there weren't enough examples of the variations for Social Security to publish during those 30 years.
The Center for Immigration Studies used the data to determine the growth of the Muslim community.
The data helps get a 'rough proxy of the growth of population of second-generation Muslim immigrants', North wrote.
Mohammad has been consistently growing in the United States since 1964, except for a dip after 2001.
'Note the drop after 2001, presumably a reaction to the events of 9/11, and then the sharp increase from 2004 to 2014, of more than 1,000,' North wrote.
In 2001, the data shows 2,222 newborns named Mohammed, while in 2004 there was just 1,816.
