KATHMANDU, Aug 7: The 11th General Convention of Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Students' Union (NSU) has kicked off in the capital from Sunday.
NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba opened the three-day General Convention held after nine years amidst a special ceremony in local Bhrikuti Mandap.
The General Convention of the students' wing of the country's oldest and largest political party could not be held since the reunion of party's two factions-- establishment side and Deuba-led Nepali Congress ( Democratic) in 2064 BS.
Some 34,000 representatives across from the country are taking part in the General Convention, according to NSU Spokesperson UP Lamichhane.
Congress leader Ramchandra Poudel, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi, treasurer Sita Devi Yadav, Minister for Physical infrastructure and Transport Ramesh Lekhak, NC former general secretaries Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, party central committee members, other leaders and Union former presidents, party sister organisations and Union well wishers have wished for the success of the event.
