“Wushu is an important sport in the country and there was conflict between the two factions within the association. We brought them together through dialogue and decided to reshuffle it,” said NSC Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama.
The electoral general assembly of the NWA called on September 17 was unable to elect the new committee as the NSC had ordered the NWA to settle the conflict within it first. However, the NWA establishment had denied the existence of two or more groups within the association by then.
The NSC Member Secretary Lama claimed that both the factions have no objection to the formation of the new committee.
The newly formed committee includes the NSC Treasurer Indra Bahadur Thing as the first vice-president. Bir Bahadur Tamang, Chandra Tamang, Deepak Lama, Janak Prashad Bartaula and Rajiv Maharjan have been appointed vice-president in the new committee. Lama was secretary in the previous committee.
Newly appointed NWA vice-president Bartaula is the UCPN (Maoist) cadre, suspended by his own party for three months on the charge of issuing physical threats to Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai on May.
Pranil Dhoj Karki retained the post of general secretary while Pratap Thapa is appointed secretary. Nani Babu Tamang is treasurer in the new committee.
