NPC joins Sankata in U-18 quarterfinals

KATHMANDU, June 5: Nepal Police Club (NPC) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship defeating CMG Sankata Club 2-1 on Monday.

KATHMANDU, June 5: Nepal Police Club (NPC) has advanced to the quarterfinals of the ongoing Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship defeating CMG Sankata Club 2-1 on Monday. 


Win over Sankata means, NPC has accumulated seven points from three matches to top group D and booked its place in the last eight as group winner.

Despite the defeat to NPC, Sankata also has secured its quarterfinals berth as group runner-up collecting six points. 


In the match played at ANFA Complex, Rejin Subba put NPC in the driving seat scoring the opener in 10th minute. Rewash Maskey extended NPC’s lead by 2-0 in the 29th minute. Dipesh Ale Magar pulled back one for Sankata in the stoppage time of the first half. 

Meanwhile, in the first match of the day, Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) registered comfortable victory of 4-1 over Jagadamba Lumbini FC. JYC’s win over Lumbini has made the quarterfinals race open in group C. 


JYC and Lumbini have accumulated six points each from three matches while Himalayan Sherpa Club (HSC) has three points with one match in hand. The last match of the group will be played HSC and New Road Team (NRT) which is yet to add single point in its account. The result of the match between HSC and NRT will decide the quarterfinalists from the group. 


JYC remained at the top of the group on the basis of goal difference of 10-4 while Lumbini (4-4) and HSC (4-5) are in second and third places respectively. 

Sushant Chuadhary scored a treble while Amit Bhomjan Lama added another in JYC’s victory over Lumbini. 


Amit gave early lead to JYC netting the opening goal in 14th minute while Sushant made 2-0 in the 29th minute. To help JYC seal the big margin win, Sushant found net in 75th and 90+4 minutes respectively.
