NOC cash incentive to Olympians

KATHMANDU: Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC), recognized by International Olympic Committee (IOC), on Thursday handed over $1000 each to five athletes, who had participated in London Olympics 2012.



NOC President Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and General Secretary Jeevan Ram Shrestha handed over the checks to the athletes amidst a function at NOC headquarters, Lalitpur. Tilak Ram Tharu and Pramila Rijal of athletics, Shreya Dhital and Prasiddha Jung Shah of swimming and Sneha Rajya Laxmi Rana of shooting had participated in the London Olympics. [break]



Dhital, who has been participating in the FINA World Championship being held in Barcelona, and Armed Police Force athlete Rimal were not present at the function. NOC has claimed that the cash incentives were to encourage athletes. Meanwhile, NOC bade farewell to taekwondo players Saksham Karki and Binita Shrestha, who are to participate in the Asian Taekwondo Youth Camp to be held in Bangkok, Thailand for 15 days. They are scheduled to fly to Bangkok on Friday with coach Suman Ghale.
