Bista elected as President of the Olympians Association

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Deepak Bista, a successful Nepali taekwondo player, has been elected as the president of the Nepal Olympians Association.

KATHMANDU, Sept 30: Deepak Bista, a successful Nepali taekwondo player, has been elected as the president of the Nepal Olympians Association.


In the election held at the Satdobato-based Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) on Wednesday, Bista defeated Raviraj Thapa by 37 votes. Out of a total of 49 votes, Bista secured 41 votes and former boxer Raviraj got four votes. Former boxer Raviraj is also the former Vice President of NOC.

However, the General Secretary, Secretary and Treasurer were elected unopposed. Rajendra Bhandari of Athletics has been elected for the post of General Secretary, Judoki Devu Thapa for the post of Secretary and Dr. Sneha Rana for the post of Treasurer.


Ten Olympians were nominated for the nine-member office bearers’ body. The body included three women. The Olympian Association formed a decade ago under the leadership of weightlifter Sunil Lal Joshi has now a total of 59 members.
