No. of registered voters down in Kapilbastu

KAPILBASTU, July 18: The number of people registering for the voters´ list has decreased by 66,000 in the district.



According to the District Election Office Kapilbastu 128,000 males, 109,000 females and two of third gender people have enlisted their names in the biometric voters´ list till the stipulated date. Likewise, 237,370 people enlisted their names till the last date.[break]



According to the office, more than 30,000 youths have gone abroad in course of employment, 20,000 have been found uninterested and 25,000 did not enlist due to negligence. Some 15,000 could not register their names as they did not have citizenship certificates, said office.



Likewise, some Muslim and Madheshi women were found not going to the name registration booths for enlisting their names in voters´ list due to conservative mindset, resulting in the decrease in the number of registered voters, said Kashi Raj Gaire, chief at the Election Office.



Ineligible people enlisting their names, repetition, enlisting of dead people´s name was the common problem in the earlier election and it has been corrected this time, said CDO Krishna Chandra Ghimire.
