KAPILBASTU, July 4: Large tract of agricultural land has been inundated at Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8 in Kapilbastu district following incessant rain. 


Around 700 bighas of arable land at Jamuni, Haribanshapur, Bijuwa and Barkul villages has become inundated following rainfall since Sunday. The 300 bighas of fields in these settlements where farmers had already planted paddy have also been washed away due to the flooding.

The farmers had approached the then District Development Committee and the Water Induced Disaster Prevention Office, Bhairahawa for constructing embankments but their requests fell in deaf ears, leading to this situation, according to the locals. 


Chief of the Mayadevi rural municipality Bajarangi Prasad Chaudhari has said that he would take initiatives to address the problem of inundation coordinating with the Province and the federal governments. RSS
