Nine held for illegal drugs and dollars

KATHMANDU, April 14: The Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit, New Baneshwor, has arrested four women and two men who had 153 grams of white heroin in their possession. The police also seized US$ 10,600 while carrying out a raid at the residence of one Gopi Tamang, an acquaintance of the group, at Kathmandu Metropolitan City-16, Balaju. [break]



The arrested were planning to smuggle the heroin outside the country, in the form of capsules made of dollar notes, a press release issued by the NDCLEU said on Tuesday.

The arrested have been identified as Dawa Tamang, 38, of Jharlang VDC-2, Dhading; Til Maya Tamang, 30, of Khoplang VDC-9, Gorkha; Dol Kumari Tamang,59, of Satyadevi VDC-5, Dhading; and Anita Gurung,22, of Satyadevi VDC-7, Dhading. Naresh Tamang, 25, of Satyadevi VDC-7, Dhading; and Muisang Tamang, 40 of Satyadevi VDC-5, Dhading; are also among those held in connection with the incident.



The police had recovered through medical procedures 10 capsules of white heroin that Til Maya Tamang had swallowed in her attempt to smuggle the capsules from Pakistan to Nepal. The recovered capsules weighed a total of 148 grams. It has been learnt that she had just returned from Pakistan.



Meanwhile, the NDCLEU has also arrested three Tanzanian nationals—Abedi Mohamedi Mnyamisi, 28, Abdallah Rayabuu Ismail,40, and Miraji Mwingyimatatu,33— from the Gangabu area as they were found to be involved in trafficking illegal drugs from Nepal to other countries.
