Drugstore operator arrested for selling illegal drugs

UDAYAPUR, April 18: It has been revealed that several pharmacies are involved in selling illegal drugs in the district. The arrest of a medicine shop owner has confirmed the locals’ allegation that pharmacies are involved in selling unauthorized drugs. The issue came to light after Udayapur District Police arrested the operator of Belaka Medical Polyclinic Pvt Ltd located in Ambasi, Belaka Municipality-1, with a huge amount of illegal drugs on Friday night.

UDAYAPUR, April 18: It has been revealed that several pharmacies are involved in selling illegal drugs in the district. The arrest of a medicine shop owner has confirmed the locals’ allegation that pharmacies are involved in selling unauthorized drugs. The issue came to light after Udayapur District Police arrested the operator of Belaka Medical Polyclinic Pvt Ltd located in Ambasi, Belaka Municipality-1, with a huge amount of illegal drugs on Friday night.


A special team deployed by the Area Police Office, Rampur, arrested Subodh Yadav, 26, red-handed on Friday following a tip-off that the medicine shop was selling illegal drugs. Police seized 2,546 units of 4 different types of drugs and 3 types of banned drugs from the medical shop owned by Yadav, who has been running the pharmaceutical business in Ambasi. Quoting officials of the Area Police Office, Rampur, the district police said that they have also recovered Rs 117,000 in cash and a mobile phone from the pharmacy.

According to police, 198 units Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets, 512 units Dicyclomine Hydrochloride tablets, 305 units Keftab B and 1502 units of 50 MG Tramadol Hydrochloride Opidol tablets were recovered from the medical shop.  “Similarly, three types of banned drugs were also recovered from the pharmacy,” police said. 


Similarly prohibited drugs like Pregout kit (10 tablets), 4 tablets of 100 MG Slidenafil and 12 tablets Zenegra Red (100 MG) were recovered from the pharmacy. District police chief, SP Bhim Bahadur Dahal said Subodh has been kept in custody at the Area Police Office, Rampur for further investigation. 


Mayor Khagendra Rai had urged the medical operators to be regulated as a pharmacy in Udayapur was found to have been involved in selling drugs illegally some two years ago. Stating that it is a sensitive issue, Mayor Rai had requested the government to regulate pharmacies. He had pointed out the need for coordination with the provincial and federal government as it is out of the jurisdiction of the local government and it cannot take action against it.
