KATHMANDU, Sept 12: Former lawmaker from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Dhaka Kumar Shrestha, has been arrested on charges of selling illegal drugs.

SP Mohan Thapa, chief of the District Police Office, Kaski, said that Shrestha was arrested based on the statement of a youth who was caught with illegal drugs. The youth claimed he had bought the illegal drugs from Shrestha's pharmacy.

On July 18, police arrested 42-year-old Prakash Thapa Magar, originally from Rolpa and currently living in Pokhara, with 97 pills of the illegal drug Trupain. He stated that he purchased the drugs from Diya Pharmacy, located at Prithvi Chowk in Pokhara Metropolitan City.

Following this, the Kaski District Court issued an arrest warrant against Shrestha, the owner of the pharmacy. Police have taken him into custody for further investigation.

Shrestha was elected as a member of the House of Representatives (HoR) from the RSP, which later expelled him on disciplinary grounds.
