KATHMANDU, Aug 24: Nine complaints have been filed with the parliamentary committee against the 17 proposed ambassadors for various countries.

Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri said that two complaints were submitted via email, and seven were filed in person.

On August 14, the hearing committee called for a 10-day period for complaints against the 17 proposed ambassadors. Spokesperson Ekram Giri stated that nine complaints were received within the stipulated time.

It has been reported that some of the complaints are personal, while others are collective. The complaints also raise questions about the Cabinet's decision to recommend the ambassadors.

Some complaints question why inclusivity was not considered when recommending the ambassadors.

Previously, complaints were also filed with the committee raising concerns about inclusivity. On July 29, the government recommended names for ambassadors to 18 different countries. However, only 17 names were submitted to the parliamentary hearing committee by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The name of Kanta Rijal, who was recommended for the position of ambassador to Australia, has not reached the hearing committee.

The committee has called for complaints against the 17 proposed ambassadors.

The government has recommended Lok Darshan Regmi (USA), Prof. Dr. Krishna Prasad Oli (China), Chandra Ghimire (UK), Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe (South Korea), Dr. Shail Rupakheti (Germany), Prof. Dr. Kapil Man Shrestha (South Africa), Prof. Dhan Prasad Pandit (Israel), and Naresh Bikram Dhakal (Saudi Arabia) as ambassadors.

Similarly, the cabinet also recommended Kanta Rijal (Australia), Prakash Mani Poudel (Portugal), Rita Dhital (Pakistan), Sanil Nepal (Spain), Dr. Netra Timilsina (Malaysia), Jung Bahadur Chauhan (Russia), Ramesh Chandra Paudel (Qatar), Sumnima Tuladhar (Denmark), and Ram Krishna Bhattarai (Sri Lanka) as ambassadors.

The committee secretariat has stated that the received complaints will now be consolidated and reviewed. The complainants will be given the opportunity to present the reasons and basis for their complaints, and the hearing process for the proposed ambassadors will proceed accordingly.
