Nepse drops 17.56 points; daily turnover falls to Rs 1.199 billion

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Tuesday plunged by a notable value of 17.56 points to close at 1,958.72 points.

The secondary market opened at 1,976.29 points and initially rose by a nominal 1.48 points. The market then fell to 1,967.57 points in the first 20 minutes of trading and remained stable for the next two hours. However, the market fell further and hit the day’s low at 1,954.92 points in the last five minutes before the index gained around four points to close for the day.

The sensitive index that measures the performance of blue chip companies also fell 3.66 points. The daily turnover went into a freefall to Rs 1.199 billion from Rs 1.737 billion on Monday. 

All 13 trading groups had their indices declined in the intraday trading. Life insurance lost the highest of 87.27 points, followed by non-life insurance, and hotels and tourism that witnessed a drop in their market values by 71.68 points and 64.77 points, respectively.

Among individual companies, the market values of 187 companies declined, while 44 companies posted gains in their indices.

Citizen Life Insurance Company Limited with trading of its shares worth Rs 55.97 million, led in terms of shares transaction value. Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited lost the highest of 7.54 percent. Similarly, Samata Gharelu Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was the biggest gainer by adding 7.91 percent of its market price.
