Nepal slumps further in FIFA rankings

KATHMANDU, Oct 1: Nepali national football that recently played goalless against India draw in a friendly has been ranked 190th in FIFA's monthly ranking published on Thursday.



This is the lowest ranking for Nepal in the FIFA. Nepal, which was at 185th position last month slipped five positions down in this latest update. Prior to this, its lowest ranking has been 186 last year and in 2007 while its best was 125th position in 1993.

In South Asian context, Nepal stands at the seventh position after Sri Lanka (191st) slipped seven positions down. Afghanistan that slipped 20 positions down to 150th rankings is still leading South Asian nations with India (167th) is second and Bhutan (173rd) in third position.


Similarly, Maldives, the only South Asian nation to climb one position up, is in fourth position with 176th ranking, Pakistan (177th) fifth and Bangladesh (182nd) is sixth among the South Asian nations. Argentina leads the ranking chart ahead of world champion Germany.
