Nepal’s COVID-19 tally hits 275,829

KATHMANDU, March 20: As many as 275,829 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nepal as of Saturday afternoon.

With 79 new cases being diagnosed via 2,637 real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests in the past 24 hours, the country has still 998 active cases. All those tested positive for the COVID-19 are currently undergoing treatment at various COVID-19 designated hospitals across the country.

A total of 271,815 people tested positive for the COVID-19 have so far gained recovery from the viral disease that made its entry in Nepal on January 23 last year. The disease has so far claimed 3,016 lives. The first death due to COVID-19 was reported on May 16 last year.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), a total of 2,233,345 RT-PCR tests have been carried out since January last year.
