Nepal’s COVID-19 tally surpasses 150,000 mark, Kathmandu Valley records 2,720 new cases

KATHMANDU, Oct 23: The total number of people infected by the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nepal has surpassed 150,000 with 4,499 new cases confirmed on Friday, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) reported.

Since the first case of the disease was detected on January 23 earlier this year, the country’s caseload has jumped to 153,008 as of Friday afternoon.

As many as 2,668people who had earlier tested positive for the virus gained recovery in the past 24 hours taking the recovery tally to 105,488. The death tally has climbed to 829 with 17 more fatalities in the past 24 hours.

There are a total of 46,691 active cases of the disease across the country as of Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley witnessed 2,720 new cases – 1628 males and 1,092 females – taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the Valley to 63,853. The Valley has so har reported 293 deaths due to COVID-19 infection.
