Nepal’s COVID-19 graph rising at scary rate, 4,524 cases diagnosed on Tuesday

KATHMANDU, April 27: Officials at the health ministry confirmed as many as 4,524 new cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours.

Of all the people tested on Tuesday, 4,364 tested positive for a new variant of the virus through the 14,672 RT-PCR tests while 160 others through 1,009 antigen tests.

Tuesday’s case-count has taken the country’s caseload to 307,925 including 3,194 fatalities. As many as 18 new COVID-19 deaths were reported throughout the country in the last 24 hours, the ministry stated in its daily COVID-19 updates.

As many as 26,225 people are receiving treatment for the disease either at different isolation facilities or remaining isolated at their homes. 

Meanwhile, the Kathmandu Valley saw 1,966 new COVID-19 patients. Of them, 1,602 people tested positive for the virus in Kathmandu district alone while 124 others were diagnosed for the disease in Bhaktapur and 240 in Lalitpur districts. 

Nepal has been witnessing a sharp rise in the COVID-19 cases in recent days. On Sunday, the ministry confirmed 3,122 cases while 3,556 more cases were detected on Monday, this week.
