Nepal Police finish first in Taekwondo C'ship

KATHMANDU, July 21: Nepal Police Club (NPC) finished overall winner in the Fourth Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship held at the covered hall in Dasharath Stadium on Tuesday. The departmental team won four gold medals. [break]



In Tuesday´s event, Ranjan Shrestha of Koteshwar Dojang ousted Bikash Karki of Surkhet Dojang to clinch gold in men´s junior U- 55 kg category. In men´s junior U-58 kg category, Jhalak Man Tamang of Voice of Children won the gold medal, defeating Basanta Tamang of Koteshwar Dojang.



Rajendra Shahi of Birgunj Dojang won gold medal in senior men´s U-54 kg category. Shahi saw off the challenge from Santosh Pun of Balgram Dojang. Similarly, Yam Bahadur Pun of the NPC defeated Sujan Joshi of Sallaghari Dojang to secure first place in men´s senior U-58 kg category.



In senior men´s U-68 category, Ganesh Bahadur Khadka of the NPC won the gold medal, defeating Rohit Tamang of Sallaghari Dojang. Likewise, Nischal Shrestha of the NPC secured gold in men´s senior U-68 kg category by defeating Keshav Shrestha of Kohalpur Dojang.



Dan Bahadur Airy of Nepali Army defeated Bharat Bohara of Armed Police Force for his gold in men´s senior U-74 kg category. Ramesh Kumar Shrestha of Trishuli Dojang defeated Shankar Gurung of Dhading Dojang to win gold in men´s senior U- 80 kg category.



In senior men´s U-87 kg final, Prakash Gharti of PLA won gold after Hem Jung Raut of Nepali Army failed to show up in the final.



Deepika Tamang of Bijeshwari Gyanmandir defeated Tara Parajuli to clinch gold in junior women´s U-42 kg category. Similarly, Bina Lama of Bagdev Dojang secured first place by defeating Maya Lama of Bara in women´s junior U-44 kg final. In women´s junior U-46 kg category, Santoshi Dahal of Layaku defeated Kelsang Sherpa of Caarigram to secure first place.



Srijana Khadka of Bijeshwori Gyanmandir sailed past Laxmi Rana of Butwal Dojang for her gold in women´s senior U-46 kg category. In women´s U-49 kg final, Yam Kumari Chaulagain of Bagdev Dojang secured first place by defeating Sangita Shrestha of NTTC. Similarly, Kalpana Rana Magar of Bijeshwori Dojang won gold by defeating Minu Lama of Koteshwar Dojang in senior women´s U-53kg category.



In senior women´s U- 57 category, Laxmi Thapa of Bijeshwori Gyanmandir saw off the challenge from Lalita Ale of PLA Club for the gold medal. Manita Shahi, gold medalist at the 10th South Asian Games and bronze medalist at the 15th Asian Games, defeated Sangita Bashyal of KTD in U-62 senior women´s final.



Sanjana Tamang of Layaku Dojang won gold in women´s U- 67 kg category, defeated Rek Maya Gurung of Kaski Dojang.
