KATHMANDU, Dec 3: Nepal has urged the international community to forge stronger and more ambitious global partnerships to ensure the sustainable and irreversible graduation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs)

Speaking at a high-level meeting in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai highlighted that LDCs continue to face entrenched structural barriers, limited access to international markets, widening digital inequalities, resource constraints, and escalating climate-induced impacts. He stressed that only robust global solidarity can help countries navigate these persistent challenges.

In his opening remarks as Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau, Foreign Secretary Rai also addressed the High-level Ministerial Dialogue on strategic pathways for sustainable graduation, where he outlined key sectors—agriculture, hydropower, tourism, manufacturing, ICT, and human capital development—as central to Nepal’s long-term economic transformation. He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to work closely with development partners, UN agencies, and the international community to ensure sustained graduation from LDC status.

In the afternoon, the Foreign Secretary visited the Embassy of Nepal in Doha, instructing officials to prioritize Nepal’s national interests and enhance services for Nepali migrant workers living in Qatar.

Rai is currently on a three-day official visit to Doha to participate in the high-level meeting jointly organized by the Government of Qatar and the UN Office of the High Representative for LDCs, LLDCs, and SIDS (UN-OHRLLS).
